Safety Notice – use of club Equipment

Safety message to members & use of club equipment

We’re looking forward to improving temperatures as we move through spring but please remember that the water is still very cold.  Always wear a wetsuit for paddling activity and for sailing activity where there’s a risk of going into the water.  A proper fitting buoyancy aid is mandatory for all activity on the water.

The club has a range of craft, wetsuits and buoyancy aids that members are invited to use either as part of supervised club led activity or subject to induction and skills assessment by a club instructor in the appropriate discipline.  (You will need to arrange assessment at the lake with a club instructor during club led activity).

Use of club sailing dinghies is only permitted when safety cover is active on the lake, provided by a club helm who holds at least RYA PB2 and safety boat certificates.

There is no charge for the occasional use of club equipment as a means of familiarisation with craft and helping decide what suits before buying your own.

A general reminder to all members when using the lake to read and understand the lone sailing/paddling policy on page 10 of the handbook sent with your membership.  In particular, be aware that the wind can be much stronger and the water much choppier as you move down the lake away from the clubhouse.

The Club currently has a number of dinghies available for hire by members (see notice board for day rates) for training and racing.  Dinghies  for hire  are for  members only unless  participating in training.
