Commodores Letter March 2016

Commodores Letter 2016

Hi Everyone

I cannot believe it is nearly 4 months since you voted me in as your new Commodore with Lotte as Vice Comm and the rest of the team. We hope to maintain the progress made over the last year to encourage more of you on the water.

We have been very busy behind the scenes over the winter with lots of maintenance and repairs at the club taking place, Zac has now loaded the new website and I hope you like the new easyjoin forms and payment system.

The new season is very nearly upon us and I hope to see many of you at our Working Party Weekend 19-20th March. Bring your wellies, old clothes and willing hands to join in and prepare the club and surroundings for 2016. Hot drinks, soup and snacks provided.

Paul Hoad our new Sailing Sec has done some tweaks to the programme in response to the survey he sent out earlier. We will soon be loading details onto the website, please keep an eye out for publication.

Briefly; we are continuing with the Family Training Days which were very well received last year and these will be around the first week of each month depending on other events. We have a number of club boats which can be used at very reasonable rates, see website https://clywedogsailing.org.uk/what-we-can-offer-you/ for details.

Our first event is over the Easter Weekend when we will have two days of organised sailing and racing. Please stay over and we can have a party on the Sat night to celebrate the new sailing year.

We will be piloting a 20/20 series with lunchtime start with short 20min races to get the adrenalin pumping. Our Open Day will be on May 1st and Mick Edwards is in charge of proceedings and will appreciate help on the day. We also this year hosting a North Wales CYRC ( Open Cadet youth meeting) over the Spring Bank Holiday.

Our annual Disability Day for Sailing/Kayaking will be on June 18th when we will be helped by Martin and his team from South Wales Kayak anglers, Disability Sport Wales and Freedom Leisure.. This is one of the most rewarding days of the year and smiles abound all day long please try and join us for the day and Fathers Day fun the day after. We will surely be having a communal barbecue in the evening too.

The CVRDA will be visiting in early July (9-10th) so take the opportunity to come and see these beautiful old dinghies being put through their paces and join us for the Sat night social.

Our Canoe/Kayak group have been active all winter and I am sure Simon and his crew have great plans for 2016. Lookout for news on the Website and Team Clywedog Facebook

Happy Sailing

Keith
