Frequently Asked Questions

I am not a member, and don’t wish to join as a member, but I have my own sail / paddle craft and my own kit and would like to go on the lake.  Can I do this?

Day membership is available on Sundays during the season (April to October) and some Saturdays during the summer (July and August). The cost is £8 per person per day.  You are expected to provide all your own craft and kit and please note that buoyancy aids are compulsory on the lake.  You need to be able to show that your craft has public liability insurance cover of £5 million.  If you have Canoe Wales or British Canoeing membership, then this will usually provide the necessary insurance cover.  In this case, we will need to record your membership number. Safety boat cover is usually available on Sundays.

I am not a member, and don’t wish to join as a member, and don’t have any craft or equipment.  Do you provide sail / canoe / kayak / paddleboard sessions?

If you don’t have your own craft and kit, there are two businesses that operate out of the club premises:- Brenin Adventures who offer sailing, canoeing, kayaking and paddleboarding and Mavericks SUPs who offer paddleboarding.  Both businesses are on Facebook and Brenin Adventures also has a website: breninadventures.co.uk

Can I camp at the sailing club?

Camping on site is only available to full members of the club and is subject to an additional fee.  It is not a formal campsite and the amount of available space is limited.  If you are not a member of the club we would encourage you to use one of the many camping sites which can be found in the local area.

Can I go fishing from the sailing club?

Fishing is not permitted from the sailing club.  All fishing on the lake is controlled by the fishing club which is totally separate to the sailing club.  Please see their website for further details:- clywedogtroutfishing.co.uk.

Do you hire out sail or paddle craft?

No, we don’t.

Do you provide instruction in sail or paddle sports?

Clywedog Sailing Club is a members’ club and members can benefit from training on an ongoing basis through attendance at the regular club sessions, canoes and kayaks on Thursday evenings and sailing on Sundays. If you are a member and taking part in the club sessions then we provide the necessary kit free of charge.  We are not currently able to provide instruction in paddleboarding.
